The Raja Muda International Regatta

November
Location: Port Klang to Langkawi through the Straits of Malacca via Pangkor and Penang

This is Malaysia's premier yachting regatta. There are seven days of active racing, cruising and great parties on shore with ample breaks to enable participants to sightsee and savour some of the sights and charms of Malaysia. The Regatta starts from the Royal Selangor Yacht Club in Port Klang with an 85 mile overnight passage to Pangkor. A second 65 mile overnight passage leaves Pangkor and finishes in Penang. The final passage leg to Langkawi is often dramatic with strong North East Monsoon winds providing excellent sailing conditions. A series of windward / leeward races over the two next days completes the Regatta with final prize giving at the beautiful Royal Langkawi Yacht Club.
The Raja Muda International Regatta is run under the IRC Handicap System and is open to Racing, Cruising and Classic classes. It is run under the auspices of the Malaysian Yachting Association, a member of the IYRU. Five International judges sit on the Race Committee and a Measurer is in attendance. Each year an international flotilla of over 40 yachts is expected.
Note: The Raja Muda is the son of the Sultan of Selangor and the event is run under Royal Patronage.

The Phuket King's Cup Regatta is the largest and most prestigious event on the Omega Asian Yachting Circuit. The superb maritime ambience of Phuket, the December offshore monsoon, excellent anchorages and a matchless social milieu make The Phuket King's Cup Regatta unique. The China Sea / San Fernando Race
April
Location: 600nm long distance race from Hong Kong to Subic Bay in the Philippines

The China Sea Race is one of the world's great offshore races with a wealth of history and tradition. The event leaves the dramatic setting of Hong Kong's Victoria Harbour and crosses the South China Sea to Subic Bay in the Philippines, a 600nm distance. As strong monsoon winds speed the flotilla on their journey south, the arrival at the Subic Bay Yacht Club in the Philippines is of course a cause for celebration.
The race, co-organised by the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and the Manila Yacht Club, is run under the auspices of the Royal Ocean Racing Club (RORC) and run under IRC rules. There are three divisions - the IRC Division, the IRM Division and the HKPN Division (which includes multihulls). Upwards of 40 yachts compete. Last year saw yachts taking part in the Clipper Round the World Race.
Note: Each year there is a race from Hong Kong to the Philippines but the destination in the Philippines alternates between Subic Bay and San Fernando. In 2003 the regatta finished in San Fernando and is called the San Fernando Race. This year the event (called thet China Sea Race) finishes off Subic Bay. The start is always the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club in the heart of Hong Kong's spectacular harbour.
